When my father was diagnosed for the 2nd time with colon cancer, I knew I had to do something to help others avoid the same pain and suffering that my family experienced.

Getting started
Getting Started

A very important moment for me, was when a women called me 4 months after my first newspaper article. The article was about the mayor making a proclamation for the month of March. It also mentioned my father and my efforts. This woman called to thank me because after reading the article, she asked her doctor for colon cancer screening. She had no symptoms, but decided she should do it. A large cancerous tumor was found and removed. No chemotherapy or radiation was required. At that moment an enormous feeling came over me. I knew I had to continue to promote colorectal cancer awareness and that my one voice made a difference!
